Frequently Asked Questions

If this page does not answer your questions regarding our organization or any other general inquiries, please feel free to fill out the form below or email us at uwsyz.recruitment@gmail.com.

WHAT IS RECRUITMENT?

Recruitment is an opportunity for anybody interested in joining Sigma Psi Zeta to meet the active members and learn more about our organization. This is your chance to connect with the SYZters and ask any questions; there is no obligation or commitment to join if you attend recruitment, so relax, bring your friends, and just have a good time!

We have recruitment at the beginning of Fall and Winter quarter. Information about all of our recruitment events are posted on our Instagram (@uwsyz)!

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER RECRUITMENT?

Rho Chapter requires potential new members (PNMs) interested in joining Sigma Psi Zeta to attend a least one General Interest Meeting and two recruitment events of choice. Sigma Psi Zeta requires a minimum GPA of 2.70 on a 4.00 scale and must not be a member of another general national college sorority. After recruitment, Rho Chapter will invite PNMs who have met these requirements to interview for a bid.

WHAT IS A BID?

A bid is an official invitation to join a Greek organization. In order to be eligible to receive a bid, potential new members must interview and meet the above requirements.

THIS IS A MULTICULTURAL SORORITY. ARE NON-ASIAN PEOPLE ALLOWED TO JOIN?

Absolutely! Sigma Psi Zeta would like to emphasize that we are an multicultural-interest sorority, not Asian-exclusive. We encourage all ethnicities who believe in our mission to participate in recruitment. Our SYZters come from all cultures, including but not limited to Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Filipina, Thai, Laotian, African American, Indian, Australian, Indonesian, Chamorro and Caucasian.

DOES SIGMA PSI ZETA HAZE?

Sigma Psi Zeta National enforces a strict non-hazing policy. Our organization's national philanthropy is "to combat the violence against womxn.” With this in mind, we are against the disrespect of womxn in all of its myriad forms. Subsequently, we do not mentally, physically or emotionally degrade our new members. To do so would go against everything we stand for, and work against the ties of loyalty, allegiance and dedication that we aim to create.

Sam’s Law: No Violations.
